Ahhhh, the feeling of completion. There’s nothing like it. Especially when it’s finishing a very important space that you’ve been working on for nearly three years.
And that brings up a good point: good design is worth the wait. I think there is a common misconception that homes are designed in a day. Okay, that’s a bit dramatic, but you know what I’m talking about right? You see a beautiful room on Pinterest or Instagram, you get the bug and suddenly you want to re-do your entire space in a week. You take no prisoners, paint all night and end up buying pieces you kind of like but don’t love?
Believe me, you’re not alone. We’ve all done it, but it’s not the way my friends. I learned that lesson a long time ago and I’m so glad I took my time with this room.
A portion of this room has been completed for a while. We’ve had our bed for years and our nightstand dressers from Hayneedle since last year and I still love theses pieces, so they stayed.
I also kept the sign I made above the bed because it’s one of my favorite pieces in our home. It’s also one of the pieces you guys ask about most. Hopefully, I’ll have a full blog post up on how I did it soon, but the short story is saved in my highlights on Instagram.
Let’s get back to the new stuff!
One of the main things I needed to complete this room was a reading chair. Since the day we moved in, a huge, comfortable chair in this corner is exactly what I’ve envisioned and Home Reserve helped me bring this vision to life.
How perfect is it?? I chose the Laney Chair and Half in Libra Manila and I adore it. It’s big enough for the kids and me to cuddle up in and read, the fabric is stain resistant so I don’t have to worry about spills and the chair came ready-to-assemble so we were actually able to get it through the doorway in our bedroom.
Home Reserve has dozens of fabrics to choose from and since everything is customizable you end up with a unique piece for home that you can even change throughout the years if you want to. This is key for me, because I get bored easily;)
The beautiful pillow on the chair is from Fount Refined and the boho wall hanging is from Roanoke Trading Company in Roanoke, TX.
The other piece I knew I needed was a long, low dresser. I’ve been searching for years, literally, and never found the exact piece I wanted for the right price. In the end, I decided to go back to my furniture painting ways and hack an IKEA Tarva, 6 drawer.
It’s a pretty dramatic transformation, but it wasn’t a huge undertaking (mostly because I have a very handy, helpful husband;)). During assembly, my husband cut the straight legs at a diagonal on the inside edge with a mitre saw. Then, I stained the outer shell in Antique White and painted the face of the drawers with white chalk paint.
The shape of the dresser is mid-century modern, the natural wood gives it a boho feel, so of course I had to add a third design element and give it a little classic glam with these gold, bar pulls. It probably breaks all kinds of design rules, but my gosh I love it…
Well, that’s it for today. What do y’all think?? I’ll be back tomorrow with more details on the new gallery wall, statement ceiling fan and finishing touches. Thanks for stopping by, lovelies!

It is beautiful but I would be so afraid of dirt and stains. Can you tell us about what is in all of the frames above your dresser?

Thanks! They’re quote cards. I’ll focus more on them in Part 2:)

Did the 10 inch hole center pull bar matchup with the holes in the dresser? Thanks!
ahousewithbooks says
No:( There is only one hole in the center so you’ll have to drill
