Valentine’s Gift For Your Guy

This post is sponsored by Jord, but I only promote and work with companies I stand behind 100% and genuinely love. You can read my full disclosure at the bottom of this post.

Can you believe it? Valentine’s Day will be here in just a few weeks! As I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown to love Valentine’s Day because I just see it as a fun day to celebrate all kinds of love. My daughter loves Valentine’s and it’s such a fun excuse to surprise her with some mushy gifts, make heart pancakes and treat ourselves.  I still like to keep the romance alive a little bit though and buy my guy something special.

I usually find that a nearly impossible task though.  I always want to find something sentimental, yet masculine. Does such thing a thing exist?? Before this year I would have said nope, it certainly doesn’t. Turns out I was wrong!

IMG_0283.HEIC

This year, I decided to get my husband an engraved, wood watch from my friends at Jord Wood Watches. I’ve been wearing my Jord watch every single day for the past two years and I loved the idea of getting him a matching one.  Thankfully, Jord has hundreds of options so I was able to get him one just his style, masculine & sleek.

IMG_0287.HEIC

I went with the Hyde Series, Stacked Sandalwood & Olive with Ivory.  Isn’t it gorgeous? To check that sentimental box for Valentine’s Day I added an engraving on the back. The engraving is just our anniversary date, but it means so much to us and I’m very grateful I was able to personalize his gift in that way.

So, what do you think? Do you still love buying Valentine’s gifts for your guy, but struggle with what to get him?  I’m so excited I was able to give this watch to my husband this year…it might even get me off the hook for next year;)

Sun Basket: What’s For Dinner

This post is sponsored by Sun Basket, but I only promote and work with companies I stand behind 100% and genuinely love. You can read my full disclosure at the bottom of this post.

Hello, lovelies! Raise your hand if you love dinner, but never know what to cook…and all the mommas raised their hand! Am I right?? My family started trying out meal delivery services this year because we had gotten into a serious food rut.  I was making the same things over and over again, we were bored and as a result started eating out a lot more.  Not good.  I mean good (I’m a huge fan of eating out;)), but not good for our bank account or waistlines.

DSC04043.JPG

After trying out another meal delivery service that shall not be named, we found Sun Basket and the heavens opened. I mean seriously, I didn’t think I could love food more than I already did…but it turns out it’s possible.

Sun Basket is committed to using organic and sustainable produce, antibiotic-free meat and most importantly, the meals taste AMAZING. I can’t stress that enough, y’all. Almost every night, when we eat dinner, I say, “This is the best meal I’ve ever had.” My husband laughs and shakes his head, knowing I’ll say the same exact thing the next night.

I also love Sun Basket because they offer multiple (not just one or two) meal options per week that are tailored for specific eating plans.  For example, we eat mostly Paleo/Primal meals and we have a bunch of meals to choose from each week that align with our dietary needs.  They also offer Gluten Free, Lean and Clean, Vegan and more.

Lastly, Sun Basket has totally opened my eyes and tastebuds to so many exotic foods I’ve never tried before.  Every week, I eat something I’ve never even heard of and absolutely fall in love with it. As a creature of food-habit I’m so excited about this…even more excited is my husband, who tried for five years to get me to eat Greek food.  Which is now my favorite cuisine, of course. LOL.

Snapseed
Steak with chimichurri and harissa-roasted sweet potatoes. One of our meals last week!

As I said above, this is a sponsored post, which means I work with Sun Basket, but only because I begged to work with them.  We’ve been loyal customers for months now and I wanted to work with them because I genuinely love this company and their food.  Their meals have changed our dinners for life and now I look forward to eating at home every night which is saying a lot from this restaurant-addicted girl.

If a healthy, organic meal that’s already planned out for you sounds amazing click on the link below! You’ll get $35 off your first order and I promise your life will be changed…or at least your food life and isn’t that the most important one we have?? 😉 Happy eating, y’all!

  $35 off Sun Basket meals!

Favorite Christmas Room

Hi Lovelies! Can you believe Christmas is less than two weeks away? I genuinely can’t.  I feel like people spend so much time saying it’s too early to decorate, it’s too early for Christmas…then all of a sudden it’s here and you feel like it went by way too fast! Am I the only one?

For the past couple of years we’ve decorated the week before Thanksgiving and then put the final trimmings on the tree on Thanksgiving Day…I love it.  It feels like we get to start enjoying the Christmas season as soon as the turkey plates are in the dishwasher and that’s just how I like it.

This year, I’m joining some blogger friends of mine and we’re sharing our favorite Christmas rooms with you! Isn’t that fun? If you’re following along with the tour, you just came from Kelly at The Tattered Pew’s kitchen.  Isn’t Kelly’s style beautiful?? It’s always so festive and welcoming, she knows what it means to create a true home for her family.

At the end of this post you’ll find links to all of the other Christmas rooms on the tour.  There is a great mix of rooms and styles so you don’t want to miss any of them!  For now, let’s focus on this house of books…my favorite Christmas room is our living room.

Our tree is obviously the focal point in this room and we adore it.  This year, we went with a 7.5 King Flock from King of Christmas.

I’m a normally a real tree, ride or die girl, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have one of these gorgeous trees. It’s so lifelike and the attention to detail is incredible. I’ve never seen a more beautiful tree, real or faux.

SONY DSC

We did end up putting a small, real tree in the dining room though. Can’t mess with tradition😉

Aother new piece in this room that has transformed the space is our rug from Rugs USA.  We finally got a rug big enough for this space and I’m obsessed with this moroccan pattern.  It’s super soft, doesn’t shed and would hide stains very well. You can find it here.

img_4260-3
If you follow me on Instagram you know that my theme this year was…not to have a theme. I just wanted to keep things simple and I’m so glad I did. Most of these decor pieces are here (or somewhere else in our home) year round.  With the exception of a few things like the tree, garland and DIY sign with my favorite Christmas lyrics this is our home.

I just wanted it to feel like our house with a little bit of Christmas sparkle. In years past I’ve put away everything that didn’t scream Christmas and in the process lost the identity of our home.  Things like the faux air plant in the gallery wall or black and white pillows would have been stashed away because they weren’t ‘Christmasy’ enough…this year I decided not to be so hard on myself.  I can’t tell you how good it feels, I just told my husband today this is my favorite Christmas yet.  The minimal decor vibe has transferred to our entire holiday season.  We’re just doing what we want, focusing on each other and not trying to squeeze so much in.  It’s been magical to say the least.

SONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSC

SONY DSC
I mentioned our DIY sign above and I’m so happy you guys love it.  I’ve gotten so many messages and emails asking where I got or how you can make it.

It’s as easy as buying a blank canvas at your local craft store and hot gluing whatever message you like with wooden craft letters.  So fun, right? We also have a larger version above our bed.

Another piece we love is our simple, wooden advent calendar puzzle. It lives on our coffee table and my daughter gets to pick out a wooden piece every day to put on the mantel.  She can play with the unused pieces as a puzzle and we’ve had so much fun with it.

SONY DSC

We needed new stockings this year because we added a fourth family member:)  I found these at Hobby Lobby, but you can find a similar version here.

SONY DSC
Did y’all catch my stories about the fun knot pillows that I found for less than $10? I love this little cutie, it adds so much interest to any space.  You can find it here in a bunch of different colors.

SONY DSCThis basket is perfect for holding all of those cozy, winter throws.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC
And that’s my favorite Christmas room!  I’ll forever treasure this room, no matter where we live, because it’s where we celebrate Christmas with our babies, cozy up at night together after they’ve gone to bed and make all of our best memories.

Thank you so much for stopping by and don’t forget to continue the tour! Areeba at Minty Candy Designs is up next and she’s sharing her gorgeous Christmas bedroom! Happy Holidays, lovelies!

xoxo,

Hayley

Hearth & Hand – Jojo Does Target!

Does anyone else call her Jojo? Is it totally creepy that I call her that?…my husband says yes;)

And who cares what we call her? Hearth and Hand is finally live at Target! I’m the first to admit, my house doesn’t have a farmhouse vibe, but Joanna has been pretttty modern lately so she and I get along just fine.  Let’s be honest, even if it wasn’t modern, she’s the queen right? I love her vision, I love their family values, I think Chip is hilarious…the list never ends, lol.

IMG_6170.HEIC

I stopped by opening morning at Target today to check everything out in person because I wanted to touch, see and smell it all before I recommended anything to my lovelies…that’s y’all by the way;)

Fall Home Tour

Happy October, everyone! I’m sharing the rest of my autumn home tour today and joining some incredible bloggers who are also sharing their spaces.  Everyone on this tour has their own unique style so make sure to follow the links at the end of this post to see all the cozy goodness.

2017 Joyful Fall Tour Collage

As for me, our fall in Fort Worth is really hit or miss.  This weekend it was cool and rainy, but today it’s sunny and warm.  I can’t rely on the weather outside to be cozy for fall so I like to make things cozy inside.

SONY DSC

If you read the post about my  fall dining room you know that I really made an effort this year to keep things simple.  In years past, I’ve overdone it with my fall and Christmas decor and as a result the identity of our home and my design style was lost in all the pumpkins and frosted Christmas trees.

This year I was intentional about every piece of ‘fall’ decor I put out and I’m so happy with the finished product.  Our home still has the same vibe it always does (the tropical plants and cool neutral colors are here to stay), but fall has definitely arrived.

So, pour yourself a cup of pumpkin spice coffee (this is my current favorite) and settle in for an autumn tour, A House With Books style…

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

Our living room is my favorite space in the house and all I love the natural, neutral feel of it this season.  I added some cozy throws (but not too heavy, because…Texas), just a few Cinderella pumpkins and fresh eucalyptus and magnolia stems.

Isn’t that gold vase a stunner? It’s from Target and I do gold all year long so I’ll use it every season, but I think it’s just perfect for fall coupled with the magnolia.

Our end tables are also new and maybe my favorite. pieces. ever. The entire thing is storage and I think they’re the perfect combination of style and functionality.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

I’m also in love with this modern, white vase from hayneedle.com. It’s so unique and I adore the fact that it’s a functional vase.  Yes, there is actual water in there…;)

SONY DSC

Now, lets move on to the entryway…yeah, I know that’s a little backward, but I thought I would mix it up this year, lol.

SONY DSC

This gold sculpture gives me life…and when I brought it home my husband asked me, “When did we start playing quidditch?” 😉

Simple Fall Dining Room

Hello, lovelies! It’s been a while since my last post because we’re currently living in newborn world.  It’s been such a sweet month, but I couldn’t let fall pass by without giving y’all a peek into our home.

The best part is I’m joining a few of my friends who are also sharing their fall homes.  Don’t forget to follow the links at the end of this post to see their beautiful, autumn spaces.

Fall Home Tours 3

And without further ado, fall has arrived in the dining room…

SONY DSC

Today, I want share our dining room because it does a great job of encompassing my fall style this year: simple, eclectic and neutral.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

Other than some fun, dollar spot pumpkins from Target the only new piece I added was this gorgeous, wood bowl from Hayneedle.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

I love the chiseled detail and you guys, this baby is heavy…it’s definitely a quality piece.  My daughter likes to call it the boat and I’ll be honest, that’s what I call it now too…

SONY DSC

To top things off I added my favorite wooden beads and some fresh eucalyptus.

And there you have it! I wanted to keep things simple this year because I have a new baby, but also because I’m tired of sacrificing my personal style for holiday/seasonal changes.  In years past I’ve decorated too much for the changing seasons.  It’s completely my fault and I’m so glad I found the perfect balance this year.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

It definitely feels like fall in our home, but still feels like our house…and not the latest autumn display at Hobby Lobby or Target.

SONY DSC

The perfect example is my girl, Philo, our Split Leaf Philodendron. She’s not exactly fall-ish, but our home is a house of plants (mostly tropical) and she’s not going anywhere. My best piece of advice for seasonal decorating is make sure you don’t sacrifice your home’s identity for the sake of the season.  People should still be able to walk in your house and recognize the space you’ve created for your family.

SONY DSC

Well, what do you guys think? Do you like to keep things simple for the holidays or are you going big this year? To be honest, I think both ways are beautiful…as long as you hold onto your personal style.  Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope y’all are having a cozy fall so far!

xoxo,

Hayley

Neutral Nursery with Boho Vibes

Last month I started panicking about the fact that I was nowhere near finishing the nursery for our little boy due in August.  Now, just 6 weeks before his due date, it’s all finished and ready for sweet Knox.  I can’t believe it!

SONY DSC

I’m so excited to share this space with y’all because I’ve never decorated a nursery before  (my daughter arrived two months before we moved across the state) and because I’ve teamed up with five of my talented blogging friends to share all of our spaces.  If you’re looking for nursery inspiration (boy or girl) look no further.

Looking for nursery decorating ideas? Don't miss these inspiring nurseries, full of diy projects, incredible nursery sources, and beautiful nursery decor ideas.

At the bottom of this post you can find all the links to their nurseries, so don’t forget to check them out.  It’s okay if you drool a little bit…I did.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

DSC01054.jpg

I adore how this room turned out because for once my vision actually came to life and because it’s the brightest room in our home and I’ve been dying for the chance to turn it into a space we’ll actually use.  I love that our little guy will get to enjoy all this natural light.  My daughter and I have already been spending a lot more time in here, playing and anxiously awaiting his arrival.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

As you can see, it’s a neutral nursery that is easily adaptable for a boy or a girl.  My design goals were a modern and soft space with a boho vibe…

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

The first thing I knew I had to have for this nursery was a juju hat.  I’ve wanted one of these beauties for a while because they’re so fun and full of texture, but when I saw a photo of one above a crib on Pinterest I knew this room had to have one.

SONY DSC

It brings that soft element that I think all nurseries should have and ties in perfectly with this plush rug we scored at Costco.  My friend Rachel at laurel + blush made our juju hat and isn’t it incredible?

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

The detail is gorgeous and I love that a handmade piece is the focal point of Knox’s room.  I’m also not mad about the fact that it’s light and I don’t have to worry about it falling off the wall…mom brain is crazy, you guys.

The other thing I knew we had to have for our boy’s room was a plant.  Totally normal, right?? Maybe not in most homes, but in our house it is! Besides being a staple in any boho space, plants bring so many benefits to a room which is why they’re all over our house.  Some of these benefits are:

  • Reduce carbon dioxide levels
  • Increase humidity
  • Reduce levels of certain pollutants
  • Reduce airborne dust levels
  • Keep air temperatures down

All good things for a nursery, don’t you think? My husband added, “Makes for a calm wife” to the list when he read this post, lol…

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

I’ve had Spike, a Majestic Palm, in here for a few months already and he’s done really well because of all the natural light and the frequent watering schedule I have him on.

Thankfully, most of the large pieces in this room are either re-purposed from our daughter’s nursery or things I found secondhand.  My mom was kind enough to re-cover the cushions on the glider we had on hand and all I had to do to our IKEA crib was switch out the hardware to make it fit for a boy.

SONY DSCSONY DSC

Isn’t it crazy how the smallest updates can totally transform a piece of furniture?

SONY DSC

The print above his bookshelf is from my friend Kristine’s blog, The Painted Hive, and I love the contrast it adds to the room.  And that sweet message? I tear up if I read it too many times.  Blame it on the hormones!

SONY DSC

The dresser was one of my secondhand finds and I’m completely obsessed.  I bought it, in excellent condition, from a neighbor of ours and easily transformed into a custom piece with a little Annie Sloan Paris Grey Chalk Paint and gold spray paint.  I had been eyeing a dresser with the same design at a couple of furniture stores, but of course they weren’t real wood and they would have cost me an arm and a leg.  I’m so happy we found this piece and I’m grateful to the family that sold it to us.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

Aren’t these shelves the best? I didn’t have a vision for large picture ledges in this room, but when I saw these five ft. long ledges at a local swap, for free, I knew I had to use them. These are handmade, but I’ve found a nearly identical version (just as long) that I’ve linked for you guys below.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

DSC01114.jpg

SONY DSC

I’ve had such a blast filling these with fun, eclectic pieces and I’m digging how it all came together.  And, just like the ledge gallery wall in our living room, I love that I can  switch things out easily and update them as he grows up.

DSC01140.jpg

I spent a lot of time choosing each piece on this wall, but this blanket kind of steals the show, right?

SONY DSC

This 100% cotton throw is from Humble Weave and I’m so happy they sent it to me because I’ve been obsessed with their blankets for a long time.  It adds that perfect modern touch to the space and it’s so soft and luxurious, I know Knox is going to love it just as much as I do.

SONY DSC

Well, that’s our boy’s nursery! This room has such a peaceful, quirky vibe and I’m not afraid to admit I come in here at least five time a day just to sit and relax for a few seconds.  Oh, and in case you were wondering…yes, those drapes are blackout.  I love my light, but when it comes to a dark room for a sleeping baby I don’t play around;)

Don’t forget to check out all of the gorgeous nurseries my friends are sharing today.  The links to all of their blogs and a full source list for the pieces in our nursery are below.  I hope you enjoyed Knox’s room and thank you so much for stopping by!
