To me, fall is full of softness…evening sun glowing through the trees, silky grass under our feet in the evenings and cozy long sleeves you can finally slip on after months of a hot, Texas summer. I wanted to bring that extra layer of softness inside this year as inspiration for our fall decor and because I always keep things neutral and simple my only other element was blush…a color I can’t quit lately.
I mentioned in my Instagram stories last week (and here on the blog numerous times) that I keep my seasonal decor to a minimum. I don’t go over the top because over the years I’ve learned I really like having pieces that can be used for more than one season and I don’t like it when I overdecorate for a season and my home ends up feeling and looking like someone else’s.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore a house that’s decked out in fall decor or Christmas splendor, but it’s just not a fit for me or my family right now. If you’re in the same boat as me I hope our soft and neutral fall home will give you some ideas for your house.

For now, let’s take a look at our house of books…
Our formal entry has gotten some major updates in the past few weeks and I’m so excited about that because it had been stagnant for a while.
My favorite sign maker Kate at Handmade Haven Signs and I created this sign for fall and winter and I love it so much I don’t think I’ll be able to take it down when spring blows in. That stunner of a lamp is the Mendes Wall Lamp from Lamps Plus and we just adore it. The classic style, with modern lines is the perfect combination for me and that Antique Brass color? I die.
I also added that fun paper clip sculpture from Roanoke Trading Company and brought it some pieces from other areas of the home. New things are fun of course, but I love shopping the house and re-arranging. It gives your beloved pieces new life and successfully refreshes your home for any season.
The snake plant is real, his name is Steven;), but those stems are faux olive stems from Hobby Lobby. I love how minimal they are, but still fall-ish with those cute maroon olives.
Let’s move into the library…
The biggest change in here for the season is the beautiful new sign from Susie Harris. I saw this love sign on her Instagram page a few weeks ago and fell in love. I adore its simplicity, bright white background and Susie’s beautiful artistry.
The only other new piece in this room is our new rubber plant, Ruby down there in the corner. Isn’t she cute?? Rubber Plants just may be the new Fiddle Leaf Fig so grab one next time you see one. They’re easier to care for (not as finicky) and like bright, indirect light.
I also rearranged the shelves and brought in pieces from other rooms of the house. Like I said, I love doing this…makes these shelves feel brand new. Oh, and do you spot the fun DIY I did a few weeks ago? I added new legs to our round ottoman and they completely transformed the entire piece. My friend Regan at The Blooming Nest gave me the idea…all we did was buy unfinished furniture legs at Home Depot for $3/a piece and replaced the old, brown ones. Easy peasy!
The kitchen is next! I love adding fresh, deep greens this time of year because traditional fall colors just aren’t my jam and the rich green of these stems is a nice change from my neon, summer stems.
Anyone else still use an apron?? I use mine pretty frequently so that I don’t get olive oil all over my clothes and this cutie from Homegoods serves as a functional piece of decor too.
If you caught my Instagram stories earlier this week I talked about refreshing your space easily and affordably with printable art from Etsy. I replaced the picture above our stove with this foggy scene and it just screams fall to me. To see my blog post with all of my favorite fall printables click here.
This is where most of that blush I mentioned comes in…
Can you even handle that painting? I cannot, y’all, I stop and stare every time I look at it…which means I’m staring a lot since we live in this room. My kids think I’m a loon.
This beauty is Blushing Breeze by my favorite artist, Julia Contecessi. This piece is the muse for every bit of fall decorating I did this year. Those blush and gold tones are perfection in my eyes and our entire living room basks in its glow. I also think it’s the perfect piece to transition into winter so it will be here for a while. Can’t you just imagine a simple, flocked Christmas tree beside it? I’m too excited.
Okay, back to fall…are you catching the soft, neutral vibe?? I sure hope so. Eucalyptus is a favorite of mine all year round, but especially during fall. It’s muted tone is just perfect for the season. I also added these fun floating shelves from Ikea and the candlesticks are from The Haven.
Another exciting update is our other gorgeous Mendes Lamp from Lamps Plus. For this space I added the brass cord covers and holy cow…I’ve never gasped so much in my life. Isn’t that combo a showstopper?
I love having a wall lamp here instead of a traditional lamp because it frees up all the real estate and inquiring, toddler hands can’t get to it. These wall lamps are my favorite update to the house we’ve made in a long time.
I’ll leave you guys in the dining room…
I gave this space an autumn feel by switching out the art (another printable art swap) and added a sweet little white pumpkin. Minimal changes with a big effect…my favorite kind of design.
That’s our fall home! As the season progresses and those pretty white pumpkins start showing up at Trader Joe’s I’m sure I’ll sprinkle them around the fireplace and the entryway but I plan on keeping the rest of the fall decor to a minimum.
