Happy Friday, summer people! I’m so excited to show you Part I of my summer home and join the talented girls of the Joyful Summer Home Tour. If you’re following the tour, you just left Marci’s home at Lemons to Lovelys. Isn’t that outdoor space to die for?? I just want to hang out there all summer long.
I don’t know about y’all, but I love the beginning of summer. The longer evenings, the thunderstorms, fruit for every meal, baseball and playing in the pool…I love all of it. I’ve said it before, but summer just feels like home in Texas. It’s brutal toward the end, but I’d never give up June and July. There is just too much magic that happens during these early summer days.
That being said, let’s jump right in!
Our summer home theme is always natural, bright and alive. Okay…so that may be the theme of our home all year long, but let’s just say it’s A House With Books amplified this time of year. Somehow I squeeze in even more plants, simplify everything else and keep the house as bright as possible.
This cart is one of my favorite pieces and I had so much fun sprucing it up for summer…
It lives directly across from our kitchen so while we do use it as a serving station or bar when we entertain, most of the time it’s just a fun display piece. To change things up I added a fresh stem from our Majestic Palm, some naturally wrapped jars and my Mumford & Sons sign from The Serendipitous Home.
As you can see, I keep a pattern of natural wood, deep texture, greenery, bright white and a bit of gold. It’s just my favorite combo…I don’t know that I’ll ever give up on it.
Can you spy the kitchen and the new backsplash it’s rocking?? That’s where we’re heading next…
Can you believe what a little subway tile can do? I’ve been loving our kitchen for almost a year now (ever since we painted it white…I promise a blog post on this entire reno is coming soon), but this last step of backsplash just put me over the top. I’m officially in love.
We flirted with the idea of doing something a little more decorative than subway tile, but thankfully my smart husband put up a sample that hung in the kitchen for a few weeks and I decided on my original plan. Classic, beautiful subway. We also went with gray grout because we wanted a little definition, but our countertops are too busy for black grout.
Did I mention that smart husband of mine also installed this backsplash for me? In short, I’m the luckiest.
To celebrate the completion of our kitchen I picked up a few items at my favorite store on Mother’s Day, Roanoke Trading Company in Roanoke, TX. I couldn’t pass up the copper utensil canister, ‘Air’ Candle and gorgeous decanter…that I decided to turn into a vase of course. What can I say? I’m weird.
The last space I want to share with you today is our dining room. The biggest change I made in here was taking down the white drapes that covered part of the doors that lead to the patio.
I loved them and they added great height to the room, but my style has dramatically simplified in the past two years so they were starting to feel a little too formal and they blocked light. I’m not really a fan of anything that blocks natural light…in case you haven’t noticed, lol.
Another update in here is my new letter board from Vermillion Drive. I’ve wanted one of these boards for a while and I adore how unique Vermillion’s boards are. They definitely set themselves apart and I’m so excited to have one in our home.
Along with our plants, fruits and veggies are my favorite summer decor staples. You just can’t beat nature-made perfection.
Well, that’s it for today! I really hope you enjoyed the first part of my summer home tour and got some inspiration for your own summer decorating. Don’t forget to keep going on to the next stop on the tour, Jordan at Jordecor. She has such a fun style and I have no doubt you’ll love what she has going on for summer.
